Increase in foreigners taking high positions in the Philippines doubled in 2007
|
 |
According to a recent article by Global Nation, foreign work permit applicants issued by the Bureau of Immigration of the RP has doubled in 2007 from 2006.
The Bureau of Immigration approves an average of 900 working visas a month.
Although one can argue, that well managed companies that are hiring highly skilled foreign professionals with international expertise to work in the country will stimulate the company to work at international competitive levels, which will eventually create more local jobs, this practice should be tightly managed.
They must must keep in mind the high percentage of unemployment in the country.
In addition, companies should show the government that they have a long term plan in developing homegrown talent as well as proving they gave local talent a fair opportunity to apply and get selected for the open positions.
